Though Syros is the capital of the Cyclades, its grandeur offers a striking contrast to the group’s iconic aesthetic. Instead of whitewashed cube houses, expect grand neoclassicals. In place of modest chapels, you’ll encounter imposing cathedrals and stately churches. Hermoupolis, the capital, is a masterpiece of architecture with grand mansions, marble squares lined with palm trees, majestic townhouses and striking public buildings that reflect its rich and noble past. On the neighboring hill of Ano Syros, opulence gives way to the quiet charm of Cycladic minimalism. The medieval acropolis is a maze of narrow stone alleys, tightly clustered small homes, built one atop the other, arched doorways, hidden courtyards, and the iconic Church of Saint George crowning the hilltop.

With its crystal-clear waters and welcoming beaches, the southern part of Syros is a beach lover's paradise. You'll find seaside resorts with organized beaches, hotels, restaurants, and beach bars. Take a stroll through charming villages like Episkopio, known for its stunning mansions, or Poseidonia, famous for the popular Agathopes Beach, its enchanting towers, and villas from a bygone era. Don't miss Chroussa, with its historic mansions, quaint chapels, and beautiful estates. Enjoy the sea at the beaches of Megas Gialos, Agathopes, Komito, Finikas, Galissas, Kini, Vari, and Azolimnos, where you'll find shallow, calm waters, and plenty of cafes, restaurants, and tavernas to choose from. Explore other beaches or hop on a boat from Kini to visit untouched spots like Aetos, Lia, Varvarousa, Marmari, Gria Spilia, and Grammata.

Finally, take a drive to the northern tip of Syros and check out the prehistoric settlements of Chalandriani and Kastri. It's where history and mythology come together, forming one of the world's oldest cultures.
